Shauney Mac's famous bbq spice rub
If all of your spices are already ground up just add everything to a nice big bowl and mix until well incorporated. If your ingredients like cumin and thyme are not ground just add them to a coffee grinder and pulse until ground. I have a magic bullet that my folks gave me for Christmas one year that works perfect for this. When you are ready to grill rub a generous amount of this on your meat and let stand in the fridge for 1 to 4 hours. If you are doing ribs you can even leave them overnight.
2 Tbsp brown sugar
3 Tbsp paprika ( if you can find smoked paprika use that but regular is fine)
2.5 Tbsp chili powder
1 Tbsp garlic powder
1 Tbsp onion powder
1.5 tsp ground cumin
1 tsp cayanne pepper
1.5 tsp ground thyme
1 tsp garaham masala
1 tsp yellow curry powder
1 Tbsp salt
1 Tbsp ground black pepper
It's that time of year, bbq time ! Some would say that time of year is all year but here in Canada we definitely do more grilling in the spring and summer months. The spice section of the grocery store is packed with all sorts of spices and rubs for grilling season but for a change whip up a fresh batch of your own spice blend for a fraction of the cost. I whipped this up as a rub for grilled chicken or pork. When you are ready to do some grilling rub this generously over your chicken, pork chops or pork ribs and grill or slow smoke to perfection. This goes best with a nice baste of sweet chicken and rib bbq sauce at the end.
